We created this issue packet for the city of Lone Tree to detail the realities of Breed-Specific Legislation. Here we will present the data behind this issue, and why public perception of this legislation is often manipulated through groups using fear-tactic over the science.

Like many of our challenges in society, there are more complicated factors at play when considering the dangers of BSL. Breed saturation, media & pop-culture trends, new breeds being developed, the media impact on the “Pit bull” fear of the late 90s, irresponsible owners picking popular “banned” breeds to act as guard dogs (propagating the cycle), and every generation having its own “dangerous” dog. In the 60s after WWII, it was the German Shepherd. In the 70s, it was the Doberman. In the 80s, the Rottweiler, and so on.

Take some time to learn more about these issues with this introduction to BSL packet we developed for the City of Lone Tree.

And if we’ve left out any points, please feel free to get in touch and let us know!
